Unlimited VoIP with VPN

Using a VoIP service has many benefits like lower calling rates, less cables and better scalability. Yet some countries like the United Arab Emirates, China, Egypt, even Mexico, South Korea and Brazil restrict people from using VoIP services in one way or another.

However, that doesn’t mean you cannot use VoIP apps like Skype, Viber, WhatsApp and co.; with a little trick called VPN you can say goodbye to geo restrictions and finally enjoy unlimited VoIP services.

Unlimited VoIP with VPN

VoIP: full speed ahead

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have some rather nasty tricks up their sleeves regarding content blocking – and not just in the countries we have listed above. Through your connection, your ISP can determine where you use the internet from and which content you want to see, so it can intentionally slow down your internet connection if you “supposedly” generate too much traffic or you enter a site that’s “against the rules”.

The basic scheme of VPN

This is what a VPN prevents: it encrypts your internet data, thus hiding it from the eyes of your ISP, and even allows you to determine which side of the planet you want to generate traffic from. In other words, it makes your ISP believe you have a different IP address than your actual one. For instance, if you want to initiate a VoIP call to Brazil, you just have to select the VPN provider’s Brazilian server, turning you into a pseudo-Brazilian VoIP service user.

Furthermore, it is well-known that the internet connection in certain countries is below average. But if you use a VPN and establish a connection through a country with better internet bandwidth, you can further increase not just your internet speed, but the quality of your calls via VoIP services too.

Goodbye, expensive call rates

If you are using a VoIP service, you can either call offline devices for free or for extremely cost-friendly prices – but not international numbers. However, if you combine the powers of your VoIP service with a VPN, you can completely unlock free calls to local landlines and mobiles of other countries, even overseas.

How a VPN with VoIP works

Using a VPN is relatively easy: all you need is a live subscription with a VPN service provider and the company’s VPN client on your computer/mobile device. Be sure to have the VPN app first, because this is the only way to access a VoIP client if the use of those is blocked by default. Once your VPN service is taken care of, you can start placing and receiving calls like a local – but only if you turn on the VPN application and select a VPN server in the country which you want to call to.

Keep in mind that if you use a VPN from a mobile device you still have to pay for your mobile internet. However, as there is no better way than utilizing a VPN for unlimited, cost-friendlier, encrypted (ergo safe) VoIP calls, paying for your mobile traffic is still a completely acceptable sacrifice.
